Meet Leanne!
Leanne is a busy bee and studying a double major; Community Development and Sociology at Murdoch University. She chose these majors because she wants to help her community. Leanne is also heavily involved in the local State Emergency Services (SES). She is originally from Parmelia and moved regularly throughout her life until settling in Narrogin 9 years ago.
Leanne says: “This year has taught me to be myself, set realistic goals and at the same time to aim high. I have gained courage and learnt that I have more strength and am braver than what I first thought. I have pushed my limits (sometimes trying to do too many things I can juggle in a week) but doing this journey with my family is an awesome achievement. Showing my son that nothing stops you from following your goals and dreams of a career. And teaching him to follow his own dreams, as no one will do it for him”.
“Lumen Study Hubs has made a huge difference to my studies. I have been able to drop my son off at school and come into a warm, quiet, friendly place where I know that there is a Student Support Officer on hand.“
“If the study hub had been available years ago, I know that the struggles I sometimes had would have been lessened by having somewhere to get the support I lack as an online student. Having a quiet space where I can use computers and the internet for free has been a game changer.”
One piece of advice Leanne would give to someone finishing school is: “to focus on a field you are interested in and that once high school is completed there is a whole new world out there for you to follow your dreams.”
If Leanne could say something to her younger self it would be: “All that matters is your belief in yourself and with hard work and determination, you can make anything into a reality”.
By the end of the year Leanne will graduate and we are looking forward to celebrating with her!
